Show #006 – The Last of the Otakon 2005 Coverage

Show #006 Direct Download:

The final bit of Otakon Coverage, I thought we had reviewed Steam although it turns out we didn’t.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is available in anime and manga forms in the U.S.

NonDE Studios – makers of “This is Otakudom” and “Steam: The Movie” [you can’t download it anywhere, but you can watch these commercials for team EVIL, they’re pretty good, and it’s like a preview] – “That Guy” is actually Scott Melzner
Seirra Mist, “Yeah, it’s kinda like that.”

Brief mention of Dragon Half, which is actually really funny and you should totally watch it. It’s also only two episodes, so don’t be fooled by Alison’s mention of a non-existant third episode.

We complain about the Kaiju vs. Final Fantasy Film again.

Alison accidently calls it “Kaiba Big Battle,” which is pretty funny. Also you should read this amusing article from the Savage Love column about a high school girl’s love of Kaiba. My reaction: Your friend won’t find someone as hot and rich as Kaiba in her high school – but a Kaiba cosplayer could totally happen!

The “Inu Yasha is a biiiooooooooooootch” email:

The Prince of Tennis, the fake final episode fan parody. I don’t know a page for this parody, but if you know one, let me know.

Eyeshield 21 – the American Football anime and manga.

La Blue Girl – it’s not anime for a first date, but you could watch it with your boyfriend. (If you’re Alison, anyhow.)

  1. Dude, you seriously cannot make up emails like that. I think it’s funny that it’s signed “Sincerely Yours” after all of that, like this person has a split personality with a 13 year old AOL user.

Your icon makes me want to rewatch the Pokemon “Bitches” AMV (which is where I assume you got it from), I haven’t watched that in a while.

    • Well, I got the icon from another LJ user, but it’s probably from that AMV. I think that’s the second best Pokemon AMV after “We’ve Got Big Balls” from Evangelion ReDeath.

AUGH! You’ve seen it! Joy! It’s like, a cult thing in certain circles here in England!

        It’s Gendo!

        • Of course I’ve seen it! They’ve shown it at Otakon for several years in a row now. In 2004 everyone dressed as Gendou ran to the front of the room and danced during the Gendou theme song.

I also really like the other work by that group – “Fanboy Bebop” and “Nescaflowne” are both really great as well.

They did others? Ohhh, the English anime scene is about to explode…
A friend of mine stumbled upon it when trying desperatly to find unlicenced things to show at the con he organises (Tokonatsu, one of the three or four cons in England. There’s Tokonatsu, Ayacon, Minami and uhm…another one held every year.)

          • Yes, “they” are Studio Sokodei. If you run a con you can ask for copies of their other stuff, check out the FAQ page on their website.

Isn’t the plural of “penis” “penes”?

  3. cojir0 says:

^_^ I didn’t believe you in the podcast when you said there are hardly any listners. I listen! *Ego boost*

    • So it’s you, the ninjacracker guy, the amazing baka, the Inu-Yasha is a biiiiiooocth guy, that guy who’s training to be a ninja, the guy who lives in Hawaii, that person who thinks our music is too loud, and someone who wrote in to tell us to have more shows at the very beginning. That’s like eight people, plus 20 I know in real life, so we’re talking 28 people.

Alright, so that’s not true, I’ve looked at the site stats ant the listener map, and I don’t know that many people, although they haven’t really written in either. So thanks for writing!

Are you British by the way? We only have a few European dots on the map (including one from Sweden! Sweden!)

    Peni?

Peni? Peni? Good God, man! It’s penises or, if you must, penes.

Life Life Life Vampire Death Song

Ya’ll probably know already this, but if not, I think the song ya’ll were talking about that has, “Life Life Life, It dies It dies It dies, The vampire lives eternally, it was promised” is “Once Upon A Time” from Good Charlotte.
