Wow, I agree with both of you!

I’d also throw in some Kusoyaro classics, like Utena “Bachelorette”, Fushigi Yuugi “The Ballad of Yui Hongo”, and “Desperate Youth”.

    Ninja Consultant hits the DS?!?

Unrelated to the new show (haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet) but I was watching a trailer for this DS game Ninjatown, and was suprised to see this – http://www.ninjatown.com/cast.php?id=8 have you heard about this yet?

  3. Re: Great show

Of course it’s incredible, that’s why it’s our favorite!

      Re: Great show

It’s all, remember how awesome Ghibli is? You forgot? LET ME REMIND YOU.

Now I want to go back and rewatch all my Ghibli.

At Anime Weekend Atlanta 07, I got to see the Nausicaa AMV with “Why Me” for the first time. It held up well! (Now I really should watch the actual movie…)

While re-watching “Odorikuru” at that con, I realized that only a few other people in the room recognized the footage from Magic Users Club [aka Mahotsukai Tai]. That’s a really stupid harem comedy which I like.

The AMVs that I watched when I was a flaming n00b… only a few of them hold up. The Ranma video with “I Would Walk a Thousand Miles” is still pretty good, but I can’t think of much good to say about “Ugly Girls of Anime”…

Finally, I should add that I think the El Hazard OAVs are dumb but very watchable. Just pretend the sequels/spinoffs don’t exist.

    • pts says:

I have no idea who you are, and thus may regret saying this — but I endorse more or less everything you said in this comment. Flamey-o, sir.

      And yes, do watch Nausicaa.

  5. I saw that “Right Now” video when it premiered at AX so many years ago, and the insane laughter and applause it got – from both me and the audience. It is a fond memory and a perfect example of what you were talking about last time with a video sometimes capturing a specific moment in a specific culture.

Watching that again made me miss those days.

  6. Something Wicked

I can’t believe you left out the Something Wicked This Way Comes AMV which is a rehash of Totoro as a horror. That’s talented editing.

    Cool Choices

I agree with a lot of choices there, lots of great videos… wow, even after 6 years people still like Memories Dance. Cool.

    Holy crap! I’m honored… ^^>

But by the way, it’s “Aquiline”, as in http://www.aquilinestudios.org

(Thanks to for pointing this out; otherwise I never would have found it.)

    • HOLY SHIT YOU MADE EVA BEBOP!!! And also Waka Laka for Osaka, which I have watched an unhealthy number of times….!

      You win 10,000 internets forever.

We probably should’ve notified the AMV community somehow of our impromptu awards.

  9. brakusjs says:

Some of these videos you chose I don’t really care for; “Shounen Bushido”, like “It’s Tricky to Make an AMV” the year before and “Jihaku” the year after, is strictly a “pander to the anime fan” video. I strictly hated “Naruto’s Technique Beat”; oddly enough, I liked and preferred Ileia’s “BTB” (same concept but set to Bleach and to much better music).

Although you mentioned the Evangelion “Nightmare” video, I would be remiss not to mention “Floyd’s Nightmare”, which parodies that video using Azumanga Daioh.

Almost everything else you mentioned, I definitely approve. I can only aspire to be as good as several of the editors that are featured in those videos you chose.

    • Dude, you are totally contradicting yourself, calling Shonen Bushidou derivative, and then liking the Bleach Technique Beat better than the Naruto one.

I did mention Floyd’s Nightmare in the show, if you listened to it…? I may not have known it was called that.

      • brakusjs says:

Which is why I prefaced my thought with “oddly enough” — I actually liked the execution of “BTB” much better than the Naruto one, even though BTB came the year after the Naruto one. I still maintain that “Naruto’s Technique Beat” was a study in visual diarrhea, and solidified the fact that most anime con goers are suckers for that, given that in 2005 it stole the Best Action award at Otakon from “Phenomenon”, another Naruto video, which was IMO much better than “Naruto’s Technique Beat”.

Full disclosure: I don’t listen to the show, I’m not a regular listener – I was alerted to this post by ‘s mention on his LJ.

        • If you listened to just this one episode (and maybe the previous one) you’d find out why I like Naruto’s Technique Beat better, and why I don’t think much of the awards given out at Otakon.

  10. doki says:

A few things I meant to mention before now…

    – The little girl in “Right Now” is dancing to an “Akazukin Chacha” fansub, not “Pokemon”.

Caldwell hates “Believe”. I don’t mean to change anyone’s opinion of it, I just find it interesting.

    – “IWIWAL” is actually the #3 most downloaded AMV from the org.

    – “Bitches” was even linked from Penny Arcade one day.

    – It’s “oh-doh-ree-koo-roo”. (more or less)

    – I believe the frogs are from “Kero Kero Chime”.

    – A couple of years before “Eva Bebop”, I downloaded this parody by a Japanese group. From stuff I’ve downloaded and posts I’ve seen on Japanator, this type of thing is rather popular.

  11. doki says:

Re: With the Hippin’ and the Hoppin’

Hmm, you guys have probably seen Cosby Bebop
