We stole our name from Neil Nadelman‘s panel. We owe him a free T-shirt.
I My Me Strawberry Eggs sucks.
We thought our listener was asking about the episode with music from Berserk, but really she’s asking about that the episode with a line from Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere.
You should idolize Carl Horn.

The thing Erin needs to know before shopping for curtains with Clarissa: How to win at Xenosaga
In retrospect, yeah, a few eps of KOR plus the movie is really all you need. I still think that much should be part of the standard curriculum, though — maybe just the OAVs and the movie.. Some of it hasn’t aged well, some of it is still pretty damn good, Hikaru is way more of a caricature than I remembered.
I feel so much less unique for recommending Gunbuster now. Do you know what is pathetic? Whenever I try to describe the ending to someone, I actually get all choked up. I have to, like, cough and mutter something about getting something stuck in my throat.
Oh, Paul, you’re so much more of an otaku than you’d like to admit. Lollersk8tes.
KOR is standard curriculum, but I don’t want to scare n00bs with it. Can you please explain to Fast Karate for the Gentleman why Otaku No Video is culturally signficant?
I don’t really have a witty retort ready; it’s been a profoundly crappy evening and I know I should be laughing in some kind of nerd esprit de corps but mostly I’m just irritated. Ease up, comrade, I never claimed not to be a geek. And anyway, that’s some epic Hard SF-tearjerker shit there. Up there with the end of Honneamise.
Anyway.
I think of myself as a post-otaku. Still love the stuff when it’s good, don’t have time for fandom bullshit and meaningless posturing. Capable of showering, having non-dork conversations, etc.
What the hell is Fast Karate for the Gentlemen?
Gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend.
Fast Karate for the Gentlemen is a highly amusing podcast whom we like a lot and have met in person. They just happened to be wrong about Otaku No Video.
Yes. Well. :-/
I would set them straight, but I have a pretty poor record of setting people straight when it comes to anime! I tried that with Escaflowne!
But Otaku no Video exegesis could be kind of fun, so I’ll consider it.
(Daryl Surat)
Wait, so you hate videogames, but you read Penny Arcade [which isn’t funny even if you do get every single “joke”]? How exactly does that work?
I showed Otaku no Video to a college anime club and they had no idea what to make of it. Nobody could relate to it all, and they thought we were insane for showing it.
That was in 1998.
To get all the episodes listed on iTunes again, you will probably have to do what we had to do, which is manually maintain a separate XML file and point Feedburner to that. Then you can have shortened descriptions of each episode in the feed while keeping the full-length descriptions on the website.
Some “explicit” extra. It’s still bleeped out! Wussies.
PS: Gunbuster…WASN’T EVEN THAT GOOD. Other than part of episode five. That’s right. I didn’t mistype squat. Rest assured that I will be first in line to buy it on DVD right as it comes out so that I can never rewatch it.
Gerald’s Omake
I download Gerald’s omake thinking it was uncensored but was disappointed that it was not.. Can you post one without all the *bleeps*?
Re: Gerald’s Omake
I don’t think there is one without the bleeps, but I’ll ask Gerald. They’re in there for comedy.
The first “clean” version is the one he sent me, and I thought the words “doggy style” were too explicit, so he sent me a “cleaner” version, the one with excessive bleeps. So I just bleeped out “doggy style” in the original and went with that.
Re: Gerald’s Omake
Ahh–I figured that but thought I should ask anyway
Thanks
Re: Gerald’s Omake
You’re certainly welcome to take the recording and fill in the bleeps with your own fun phrases – like a madlib!
Just be sure to send it to me when you’re done.
Squeeee!
Kyaaaaaa! You read my email! I was worried that it hadn’t gone through! I muchly appreciate your answers to my questions. I have finished my drawings of Erin as a ninja disguised as a princess, and Allison as a classic-style Yanki (okay, so I was watching Kamikaze Girls at the time, sue me). I’ll email them to you as soon as my mom fixes the scanner.
Pretty shoujo sparkles,
Kuroneko, who doesn’t mind too much that Noah revealed her secret identity on air
Re: Squeeee!
Email us the fan art!!! Do it!!!
That’s only the FAQs for Epsisode I of Xenosaga. You’re going to need II and III as well! And Xenogears too, if you really want to impress a fanatic.
A while ago you said somebody’s podcast was going to talk about Xenosaga–not yours naturally since you do not play videogames. But whose? Please give me a hint. Or just tell me.
I no longer remember who said they’d talk about Xenosaga. Maybe try podzinger? Maybe it was Anime World Order?
Wrong link for my show T_T
Aaaand because you asked nicely, here are the lyrics

R5 Central: Podcasting at its finest…maybe
Sorry!! Noah did the show notes! I fixed the link!
Also thankyouthankyou for the lyrics! w00t!
Oh and killer props for playing the HJU promo, the guys’ll appreciuate it XD
It sounded pretty and everything, but with all the audio overlay, I could not make out the word “henshin”, either in the title or in the URL. It almost sounded like “hazing” to me. I found it by searching for justice unlimited podcast, though.
Aww and I thought the Hot Blood involved would have cleared up reception ^^;
clarity of promo
Yeah, I thought I heard “Daikon” at first, until I realized it must have been “dot com”.
I think the biggest question here is…does Carl Horn need our adulation?
Or does he just need some EVA convo and a nice bottle of chianti.
We went to his hotel party at AWA, and we’re going to have to say yes, yes he does!
I’m pretty excited about 801 Media myself. Hopefully we should get some title acquisition announcements out of Yaoi-Con.
Erin, if you’re still kicking around the idea of that yaoi podcast just let me know.
Gerald may have something there with his comparison between zombie flicks and giant robot shows. I guess you either like/fear zombies or not, and that’s going to determine whether you’ll enjoy those movies; similarly, a lot of people can’t really seem to get into giant robot shows (with the frequent exception of Eva) because they simply can’t get excited about a huge robot blowing stuff up.
Don’t worry about the video games, I’ll accept tabletop roleplaying as an adequate substitute.
Speaking of video games, there really should be an awesome Princess Tutu rhythm game where you save the world through dancing (sort of like Gitaroo Man with ballet instead of rocking out).
Also yes, Carl Horn is mighty. All shall love him and despair.
I can’t believe you didn’t mention your good friend Christopher’s comic – The Ego and the Squid, which is currently being hosted at http://www.doctorsquid.com! If you’re going stab me (him) in the back, have the courage to do it to my (his) face!
Inappropriate plug!
Dot dot dot.
After reading all your super awsome comments (By liseners and you, nothing I could possibly say could make them any less awsome.
Yaoi? Where?
Oh, I’m doing a drawing list of the list I made. Any input from you two would be great, or if you want to add anything. Get back to me on my email if your interested.
Re: Dot dot dot.
Yes, that was me. ^^
Before even listening I shall say: “Evangelion before RahXephon” it’s a who copied whom sort of thing. Don’t let ’em think EVA tried to make a new, cool RX!
As we learned from Carl Horn, Eva ripped scenes directly from Ideon, and as we learn from XP, RahX rips characters from Eva.
You can’t enjoy RahX if you’ve seen Eva, or more precisely, if you loved Eva. So perhaps the order of watching should be:
1. RahXephon
2. Evangelion
3. Space Runaway Ideon
